Horde Gold
September 9th, 2008Buying gold for World of Warcraft characters may be cumbersome to a lot of individuals. Some have been victimized by hackers and it is just so bad that the hackers may even be the same seller they bought their gold from.
In the real game play, one may earn gold in World of Warcraft through completing quests. One may also kill enemies or battle opposing factions to earn gold. Another method of earning gold in World of Warcraft is to have your characters assume professions. While not engaged in battle or map exploration or gaining experience, your character may do business by using its skill. Here are the choices for the professions: Herbalism, Mining, Skinning, Blacksmithing, Leatherworking, Alchemy, Tailoring, Enchanting, Jewel crafting, Engineering, First aid, Cooking, and Fishing.
The practice of these professions, or virtual professions, I should stress, does not earn the players much gold. So another option for players is to buy it. Earning gold is tiresome. You need patience and lots and lots of time to earn gold. And patience is not something every player possesses.
Checking online, these are the current prices I found for Horde gold in several servers. For Boulderfist EURO, 200 gold is worth $7.12 USD. 500 gold is about $17 USD. 1000 gold is around $35 USD, and 2000 is at $70 USD. For Al’ Akir EURO for Horde gold, 200 gold is $7 USD, 1000 gold is $35 USD, 2000 gold is $67 USD, and 5000 gold is $168 USD.
One thing that amazes me is the differences in the prices of gold for either faction—Horde or Alliance. I am unsure which has a higher price because the websites I checked have varying prices and have no uniformity or pattern.
So what I did was to browse and I found out that simple statistics determine the value of gold in World of Warcraft. There was this Daedelus project I saw online which sent out surveys for a study and this is what they found out:
There is no significant difference in the numbers of male and female players for both factions—the Horde and the Alliance—but there is a substantial difference in the age bracket between the two.
Players who have Horde characters are younger that players of Alliance characters. It is also worth to note that Horde players prefer Advancement, Competition, and Mechanics of the game as opposed to players of Alliance like the role-playing adventure and customization of the interface.
I think that is the key in solving my issue. If more players in one faction are older, say, Alliance, sellers of gold may increase the value of gold since Alliance players are most likely employed. On another hand, it may be that the price of gold is more expensive for younger players, say, Horde, because younger players are more likely to pursue the game.
I think in conclusion, the price of the gold really depends on the seller’s perspective. Of course, marketing strategies apply, too.
